Giovanna’s “lovely rich middle” (Opera Canada) and “clear as a bell soprano” (Echo Germanica Magazine) has won her numerous awards and scholarships in various competitions including Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Competition, finalist in the Jeunesses Musicales VII Canadian Lyric Competition in Montreal and a full scholarship to attend the Teatro del Maggio Young Apprenticeship Program in Florence, Italy.
Operatic roles include Rosina in Barber of Seville at the Teatro Romano in Fiesole, Italy, the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro with Opera Viva in the Czech Republic, Contessa di Folleville in Maggio Musicale Fiorentino production’s of Il Viaggio a Reims, Miss. Wordsworth in Britten’s Albert Herring in the Teatro Rendano Cosenza, Italy, Amina in Sonnambula, in the Teatro di Bologna as well as Violetta in La Traviata in Florence’s Teatro Ridotto for le scuole, a rare and educational opera program for children and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi.
She experienced an important breaking point in her career where she performed the role of the Voce dal Cielo in Verdi’s Don Carlo with the highly esteemed Maestro Zubin Mehta at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Italy.
Giovanna also appears regularly in concert. Notable appearances include Vivaldi’s Gloria at Roy Thomson Hall with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, a solo recital of operatic arias in Siena, Italy at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, highlights of La Traviata with Rolando Panerai in Florence Italy as well as highlights of La Boheme at the Boris Brott Festival, Hamilton.
